Locking Stumps Community Primary School is part of One Community Trust, a family of seven primary schools and one secondary school serving communities across Warrington. The Trust comprises 7 Primary Schools including: Locking Stumps, Oakwood Avenue, Gorse Covert, Woolston, Croft, Culcheth and Brook Acre. Birchwood Community High School is the only high school within the trust.
The Trust is led by CEO Gary Cunningham and operates under a model of collaborative autonomy, enabling schools to share expertise and best practice whilst maintaining their own unique identity.
Through regular Trust-wide leadership meetings, curriculum networks and professional development opportunities, schools work closely together to drive continuous improvement and ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils. Staff benefit from strong school-to-school support networks, collaborative moderation activities, shared curriculum development and the exchange of effective teaching and leadership practice. This collaborative approach strengthens quality assurance, supports school improvement priorities and enables colleagues across the Trust to learn from one another while responding to the needs of their individual school communities.
Locking Stumps Pre-School
Locking Stumps Pre-School is an Ofsted-registered setting for children aged 2 to 4 years, located within the Village Room at Locking Stumps Community Primary School. The pre-school provides a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment where children learn through play and exploration, following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to support a smooth transition into Reception.
Children benefit from a wide range of engaging activities, an extensive outdoor learning area and opportunities such as Forest School sessions, visitors and special events throughout the year. The setting welcomes both funded and fee-paying places and accepts 2-year-old funding and working parent funded childcare for 2 to 4 year olds.
Session Times
- Morning: 8.45am to 11.45am
- Lunch: 11.45am to 12.30pm
- Afternoon: 12.30pm to 3.30pm
Funding and Fees
Eligible children can access up to 30 hours of funded childcare per week. A range of flexible attendance patterns are available, including part-time and full-time places.
A small consumables contribution helps cover:
- Healthy snacks
- Sun cream
- Forest School activities
- External providers and enrichment sessions
- Educational visits and special events
- Seasonal celebrations and parties

Thomas Risley Church
Locking Stumps Community Primary School enjoys a strong and longstanding partnership with Thomas Risley Church, which is located just a short distance from the school. Together, the school and church work collaboratively to serve and strengthen the local community, providing valuable opportunities for children, families and local residents.
This close partnership includes:
- Joint assemblies and collective worship opportunities.
- Remembrance services and commemorative events.
- Community celebrations and events, including summer fairs and seasonal activities.
- Singing performances and shared community projects involving pupils and church members.
- Support for charitable initiatives and local community events.

Lynx Club
Locking Stumps Lynx Club provides a Breakfast Club, After School Club and Holiday Club for children aged 4 to 11 years. Based at Locking Stumps Community Primary School, the club currently offers places exclusively to pupils attending the school. The Lynx Club works closely with the school to provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment that complements children's learning and development beyond the school day.
